The Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants recently awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500 to five students pursuing accounting degrees.

Applicants are judged based on academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities, a personal letter of introduction and financial need.

The five awardees for the 2023-2024 academic year include: Kacelyn Kubojiri, a 2022 Kamehameha High School graduate who currently attends Pacific University; John Marrack, a 2021 Hilo High School graduate who is currently attending Santa Clara University; Kimverly Mateo, a 2023 Honokaa High School graduate who will be attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Zariah Rivera, a 2020 Honokaa High School graduate who is currently attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo; and Nathan Sewake, a 2023 Waiakea High School graduate who will be attending the University of Arizona.

HAPA is a statewide organization of accounting professionals that offers continuing professional education and fellowship among the business community.

The Big Island Chapter includes over 60 certified public accountants, public accountants, and associates. HAPA scholarships are offered to encourage students to pursue careers in accounting and will again be offered for the 2024-2025 academic year.
